A man who was shot while hunting Thursday was treated and released from Community Memorial Hospital a few hours later, according to Sheriff's Deputy Ron Ganrude.
The incident reportedly happened at about 1:30 p.m. at a pheasant hunting farm on County Road 33 at the border between Winona and Fillmore counties.
Police said that Judy Louise Michaelson, 54, of Rushford, was hunting pheasants with two others when a bird flew up near her feet. She reportedly swung the 12-gauge shotgun up to shoot and hit another hunter several times.
Richard Lawrence Nelson, 62, of Rushford, was hit with multiple pellets in the chest, arm, leg and hand, then transported to CMH in a private vehicle. He was treated and released Thursday.
Winona County was notified by the Fillmore County Sheriff's Department nearly three hours later, after the hospital reported the incident. Ganrude said that because of the time lapse police did not investigate to see if alcohol was involved and there will be no criminal charge filed.
"I think it was just an accident between friends," he said.
