Free workshops designed for adults and children 6 to 11 year olds
Healthy Kids Club Feeling Great in 2008 is a free event that will be held Saturday, January 12, from 10 a.m. until noon at the Winona Middle School, 1570 Homer Road in Winona. Children ages 6 to 11 can sign up for their choice of two free healthy activities (registration is required):
Exercise your Brain - Get your brain and body swinging this winter with songs, science and stories. Elementary educator Luke Merchlewitz and music educator Brenda Merchlewitz invite you for a happy good time!
Snack Time Fun - Have fun making and eating, easy, delicious and good-for-you snacks! Presented by Winona Health registered dietitians Heidi Ferris & Christine Stoltman.
Flowers for Kids - Learn how to grow and take care of flowers and have a chance to design and keep your own flower arrangement. Offered by Serena Kreckow at Bloomin Greenhouse.
Kickball Kids are invited to join in a fun game of old-fashioned kickball. Tennis shoes are required. Offered by Winona Family YMCA.
Karate - Karate can strengthen body, mind, and heart. Children will learn warm-up exercises and simple, safe, self-defense techniques. No experience or equipment required. Offered by Minnesota Genbu-kai Karate.
Exploring After School Activities - Discover healthy and creative new ways to have fun after school! Offered by Community Education's Key Kids program.
Basic Football Skills - Learn basic football skills with players and coaches from Winona State University. Tennis shoes required. Offered by Winona State University football team. The event also includes two presentations for adults.
Children's Positive Mental Health - John Rislove, Winona Health director of Behavioral Health Services, will provide information about childhood mental health disorders as well as information about providing structure, rules and enforcement.
Healthy Kids: What they Eat and How They Move - Rose Gurley, Winona Health outreach dietitian, and Corrie Searles, Winona Health director of Rehabilitation Services, will share tips on how to get your family on the right track to eating healthy, being active and feeling great.

Kids are encouraged to bring their Healthy Kids Club wellness journal. Children ages 6-11 who have not received a wellness journal may receive one at this event. There also will be healthy snacks and an opportunity to win door prizes.
