From: Rick, Linda, and Korto
We thank you for the wonderful article you wrote about Korto and the needs Rick and I have in caring for her. The generous people of Winona Area have shown compassion for us and we have received donations to cover the cost of her travel to Liberia to visit her family and also pay for her medication for the next several months. What a blessing you are to this community! What a blessing you and this community are to us!
Also, as a result of hearts being moved by "Korto's Wish", we had a challenge to the first and second grades of the Winona School District to raise funds to provide scholarships to Korto's former classmates in Liberia. This individual, who wishes to remain anonymous, would match all funds raised until February 28th. Unfortunately, because this would be affiliated with the Methodist Church (the Liberian school is Tubman Grey United Methodist School), it was declined by Mr. Durand's office. It is unfortunate that this challenge cannot result in more children being assisted to attend school, but I am very grateful for the generosity shown by our Winona (and Wisconsin) neighbors. I am writing a letter to the editor to express our gratitude and to let people know how they can sponsor a student in Liberia if they wish.
We wish you peace and joy in this New Year. Once again, thank you. It seems so little, but it comes from our hearts.
