The Winona Area Widowed Persons Service will meet January 5, at 7:00 p.m. at the Winona Senior Friendship Center. The program will be “Share a Memory”. Lunch and fellowship will follow. The Executive Board will meet meet Tuesday, January 20, at 9:00 a.m.at the Country Kitchen following breakfast.
Breakfast will be each Tuesday at 8:00 a.m.at the Country Kitchen. The Thursday evening group will meet at the Ground Round at 5:00 p.m. for dinner and fellowship. All widowed persons are invited to any and all of these meetings.
The Winona Area Crime Stoppers board of directors will meet on Tuesday,January 6, at Timbers Restaurant in Winona. The meeting begins at 8:00 a.m. and is open to the public
Sequoia Society will meet on January 8, at Winona Health for lunch and a tour. Arrangements were made by Julieanne Schwemer.
The Hiawatha Valley Civil War Round Table will have its monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, on the second floor of the Winona County Historical Society building, 160 Johnson Street, Winona. This month we are fortunate to have Dr. Tycho deBoer of the St. Mary’s University History Department give a presentation on “The Civil War and the Southern Economy: the Perspective from Southeastern North Carolina.” Dr. deBoer has recently published a book dealing with the economy and environment of this area of North Carolina. All are invited and refreshments will be served.
Young at Heart will meet Thursday, January 8, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart for Mass at 12:10 p.m. followed by a catered meal from Midtown. The menu includes lasagna, tossed salad, garlic breadsticks, and dessert. Cost for the meal is $6.00, but no one is turned away because of inability to pay. Entertainment will be provided by Vicki Snyder, a licensed laughter leader. Vicki uses Bible passages and proverbs as part of her presentation. Reservations for the luncheon should be called in to one of the following by noon on January 6: Rita Gallagher 452-9215, Joan Waldock 454-4454, Tony and Marge Zittel 454-3433, or the parish office 452-4770. You do not need to be a Cathedral parishioner to attend.
Chautauqua Club will meet on January 12, at the Winona County Historic Society. Donna Peterson will be the hostess and Judy Russert will be the co-hostess. Program will be provided by Enda Fitzmaurice.
Portia Club of Winona will meet January 12, at 11:30 a.m. Marilou Kiehnbaum will hostess at Timber’s Restaurant.
Winona Collector’s Club will meet at 6 pm on January 14. It is potluck. Please bring a dish to pass and two wrapped gifts for card bingo.
Winona County Soil and Water Conservation District board of supervisors will hold their regular monthly board meeting at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 15, at the Ag Service Center in Lewiston.
The Prostate Cancer Support Group of Winona will NOT meet in January. The next meeting will be February 2, at 7 p.m. in the Parkview Conference Room of Community Memorial Hospital, to discuss reorganization of the meetings.
