Cochrane woman dies in rollover

A 71-year-old Cochrane, Wis., woman was killed after her vehicle rolled near the intersection of State Trunk Highway 37 and Gehrke Road in Modena Township on Christmas Eve.

Police were called at 11:48 a.m. to the scene, where the victim’s 2007 Ford F150 truck was found upside down in a shallow body of water. Emergency crews found the driver, Judy M. Schlawin, displaying no signs of life, while her passenger Annette Kay Schlawin, 36, of Chippewa Falls, Wis., was conscious.

CPR was initiated by the Mondovi Fire Department, Mondovi Ambulance and Dover First Responders. They were able to get a pulse on Judy Schlawin and she was transported to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, where she died later that evening. Police said she died as a result of a cold water drowning.

The accident is under investigation.
