Ruth Ida Losinski died Wednesday, December 29, 2004, after a prolonged stay in the care of Lake Winona Manor. Her death is attributed to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

She was born May 29, 1922, the only daughter of George and Hulda (Schewe) Kratz. She had two brothers, one of whom, Allen, was killed in action during World War II in the Hertgin Forest, Germany. Living is Harold (Elaine) Kratz of Iowa.

Ruth graduated from Winona Senior High School with the Class of 1940. She attended several years of college at Winona State. Following that she was employed during the beginning of World War II by the DuAll Manufacturing Company in the Twin Cities. Following that, she applied and was hired by the U.S. Navy Department in Washington, D.C. throughout the war.

Upon returning to Winona she was employed as a proofreader for the then, Winona Republican Herald newspaper.

On May 29, 1947, she married Richard J. Losinski. To this couple were born four children, Richard Allen Losinski (Mary Pike), Roger John Losinski (Tamie Palbicki) now divorced, Karen Jean Losinski (Mark Funk) now divorced, and Charles Robert Losinski (Sue Olson). Grandchildren are Emily Ruth of Richard A.; Kayla Ann and Marcus Allen of Roger; Samuel Ashley and Maxwell A. of Karen Jean; and Tyler C. son of Charles and Sue. She is also survived by one great-grandchild.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Allen, killed in combat.

She was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church. Her body has been cremated. Church services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 3, at St. Martin's Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to the time of the service. Burial will be in the summer in Pine Creek, Wis.

The family will be directing memorials to the Winona Public Library.

Ruth was quick with a smile, easy to be a friend of, and taught uis to love our neighbor.
