On Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at 8:34 p.m. the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department received a report from a residential address in Buffalo City, Wis., of a one-vehicle accident. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, the driver of the vehicle, Tonia J. Khollman, 33, of Fountain City, was unresponsive and had sustained head injuries. According to the report, Khollman was extricated from the vehicle by the Tri-Community Fire Department and transported by Scenic Valley Ambulance and Winona Area Ambulance crews to the Winona Health Emergency Room. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department did a preliminary investigation that showed Khollman was traveling northbound in a 1999 Gold Chrysler Town & Country minivan on South River Road in Buffalo City. According to the report, Khollman was traveling on the wrong side of the road through a curve in the road when the vehicle went onto the snow-covered shoulder of the road. The report also stated that Khollman apparently over-corrected, was traveling too fast for road conditions, and her vehicle had inadequate front tires. As a result, the vehicle turned sideways and slid from the southbound lane across to the northbound lane, onto a lawn. The driver’s door struck a tree and came to a rest. The report stated that Khollman was under the influence of alcohol at the time, which is believed to be a major factor in the crash. She was not wearing her seatbelt.

The Tri-Community Fire Department, Scenic Valley Ambulance, Winona Area Ambulance, Snapper’s Towing, Alma Police Department, along with the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Department, responded to or assisted with the crash.
