Team heads to playoffs

by KIM SCHNEIDER

Cochrane-Fountain City High School (C-FC) football team will advance to season playoffs after a 16-12 victory against Lincoln High School Friday night.
The game determined who went to playoffs, as both teams needed better than a .50 record to proceed.
“We had a lot of adversity this week,” said C-FC head coach Steven Lyga. “The kids really stepped up.”
Lyga said several of the upperclassmen experienced injuries leading up to the game. They were missing two defensive linemen due to injuries and a senior to mononucleosis. C-FC played with a freshman kicker and freshman holder.
“We were playing with pretty much a skeleton crew,” said Lyga. “They did what they had to be successful.”
Going into the playoffs, Lyga said it’s likely they’ll play someone they haven’t before. With the team’s 4-3 season record, it’s likely the team will face an undefeated opponent.
The team also sported different patterned pink socks Friday night, showing their support for raising Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
