Activities related to 2016 Red
Winona County Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) has been working with a number of area student groups on activities to focus attention on drug prevention. October 23-31, 2016, is Red Ribbon Week, part of the National Red Ribbon Campaign sponsored by the National Family Partnership, a drug prevention education and advocacy organization.
Groups in the Winona area participating in Red Ribbon Week activities include sixth grade health classes at Winona Middle School, the Winona Senior High School Student Council and W-Club, the Lewiston-Altura High School Student Council, Pleasant Valley Church MOVE Youth Group, and the Family & Children’s Center.
“This year we are highlighting a concern in our community that prescription drugs are easily accessed and shared,” explained Winona County ASAP Coordinator Phil Huerta. Area student groups are sharing important drug prevention information through banners, posters, montages, and announcements in schools; by handing out fact cards on safe prescription drug disposal door-to-door; and by sharing facts during a student versus faculty volleyball event.
Winona County ASAP is a coalition of community members devoted to cultivating a drug-free culture for children and teens in the Winona area.
