Sydney Kurth was recognized as the Kiwanis Sunrisers of Winona 4-H Youth Representative for the month of November. Sydney is the daughter of Lyman and Holly Kurth. She is a member of the Silo Happy Hustlers 4-H Club and a junior at Lewiston Altura High School.
Kurth has served as the secretary and vice president of her 4-H club and is currently serving as the club president. She has shown dairy cattle in the 4-H program for the past 12 years and has also participated in flower gardening and photography. Her most outstanding 4-H accomplishment so far is receiving Grand Champion Ayrshire Heifer in 2017. Kurth said her 4-H projects have taught her that it is important to have patience and even the most stubborn heifer can turn out to be the nicest.
Kurth has taken part in the Minnesota State Fair for five years and has also been a member of the Winona County Dairy Judging Team. When asked what 4-H has to offer Kurth said, “4-H opens many doors for you; even if you aren’t a farmer there are many different projects you can do.”
Winona Sunrisers Kiwanis Club honors one outstanding Winona County 4-H member during its breakfast meeting on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The club meets every Wednesday at 7 a.m. at the Winona Family Restaurant in Winona.
