The Winona Senior High Dance Team (pictured) placed first in the high kick category at the Plainview-Elgin-Millville Invitational on Friday, December 29. Varsity Jazz came in third behind Lewiston-Altura and Plainview-Elgin-Millville.
The dance team has two home events coming up in January. The first is its annual invitational on January 6. The event starts at noon with the jazz category, with kick starting at approximately 2 p.m. Participating teams include Winona, Lewiston-Altura, St. Charles, Dover-Eyota, Wabasha-Kellogg, Houston, Rushford-Peterson, Stewartville, Chatfield, Fillmore Central, and Lake City.
Then, on January 20, the team has the honor of hosting this year’s Big 9 Dance Team Championship. That event also starts at noon with jazz and high kick scheduled to begin at 2:15 p.m. This is the first time Winona has hosted the championship since 2007. With Faribault and Austin regularly making it to state finals each year, the conference championship is a highly competitive event.
