Winona Park and Recreation has added noon drop-in hockey at the Bud King Ice Arena. Play began on Tuesday, January 30, and will be available every Tuesday and Thursday until March 29 from noon to 1 p.m. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. and close at 1:30 p.m. Availability may be affected because of holiday breaks or other scheduled arena activity. Check the WAYHA calendar for specifics.
Drop-in hockey gives adult enthusiasts (men and women age 18 and older) the chance to participate in real-game situations. Games are self-officiated; players divide into two teams and scrimmage following USA hockey rules. Helmets are required and all other gear is strongly recommended.
Bud King Ice Arena is located at 670 East Front Street, Winona. Games will be played on the outdoor rink with the indoor scheduled as backup.
There is a $3 daily fee to participate, or you may pay $30 for a season membership, which includes all noon hockey, public hockey, and public skate times. Players must pay for sessions in advance or hold a current arena membership. Memberships are sold online at www.cityofwinona.com or may be purchased at the Park and Recreation Office inside city hall.
