After a close night of competition the Winona gymnastics team came away with the win over Red Wing. The teams are close in abilities and scoring. Winona hit the routines that they needed to hit –– when one gymnast made a mistake, her teammates stepped up and made up for it allowing a drop on their lowest scores for each event. Callie Van Dyck had a great night of competition, winning bars, beam and the all around, while scoring second in the vault and floor portions of the meet. Teammate Chloe Hughes won the floor exercise, posting the highest score of the night with a 9.35. Sophmore Emily Cierzan stuck her beam routine, clinching her third place on beam.
The next meet for Winona area gymnastics is on Friday, February 2, at 6:30 p.m. at the Winona Middle School. This meet will be also be Senior Night, when the team’s senior students will be honored at the opening of the event.
