On March 7, Tucker Robeson presented an interesting program to the Learning Club in a packed room at the Winona History Center about his research on peat and Scotch liquor. Robeson’s research has provided the basis for his Master’s thesis for the Department of Resource Analysis at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona. Robeson investigated what makes peated Scotch sought after by many serious Scotch connoisseurs. Then he investigated the seven million acres of peatlands in Minnesota to determine what portions of them contain similar ingredients. He raised interesting questions about the potential application of his research in the creation of a peat-smoked whiskey of Minnesotan appellation.
