Classic Movie Monday
What do you do when you find out that your aunts are homicidal maniacs who poison gentlemen callers? Find out at the next Classic Movie Monday starring Cary Grant and Priscilla Lane.

Classic Movie Monday is on every first Monday of the month at 1 p.m. in the Winona Public Library’s Bell Art Room. The next Classic Movie Monday is on Monday, April 2, at 1 p.m. Popcorn and a light beverage will be served.

To find out the title of the movie, call the library’s reference desk at 507-452-4860, or go to www.winona.lib.mn.us.

Dementia-Friendly Communities Week and ‘Still Alice’ book talk
April 2 to April 6 is Dementia-Friendly Community Week. Winona is one of many cities working toward becoming dementia-friendly.

There will be many events hosted at the Winona Friendship Center as well as other locations in Winona. For a list of events visit https://www.cityofwinona.com/city-services/winona-senior-friendship-center/. For this special week, the Winona Public Library will host not one but two book discussion events.

Both book discussions will center on the book “Still Alice” by Lisa Genova. In “Still Alice,” Harvard psychologist Alice Howland is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Alice “struggles to find meaning and purpose in her life as her concept of self gradually slips away,” according to the publisher.

Winona Public Library’s regular monthly book discussion will take place on Wednesday, April 4, at 2 p.m. in the library’s Bell Art Room. An additional book discussion event will take place on Thursday, April 5, at 6 p.m., also in the library’s Bell Art Room.

This program is funded in part or in whole with funds from a SELCO Community Read Grant sponsored by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Legacy Fund.

WALC art exhibit
Students from the Winona Area Learning Center (WALC) will have their art displayed in the Bell Art Room of the Winona Public Library throughout the month of April.

The event highlights the success and high level of achievement by students attending the WALC and features work from the fall and spring.

The public is welcome to attend a reception on Tuesday, April 3, from 5:30-7 p.m. in the library’s Bell Art Room. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Book Bingo: Evening edition
Books, bingo, and beer? What? That’s right — books, bingo, and beer!

The Winona Public Library is bringing Book Bingo outside the library and back to Island City Brewery on Wednesday, April 4, at 7 p.m.

Play four to five rounds of bingo; each round is a different bingo variation. (Start with regular bingo, then maybe do the letter “C” or a kite on your board.) The winners of each round will get to pick their choice of book/audiobook.

What prizes are up grabs? “The Scorch Trials” by James Dashner (book), “Wicked” by Gregory Maguire (book), “Before I Fall” by Lauren Oliver (book), “Silken Prey” by John Sandford (book), and “Dear John” by Nicholas Sparks (book).
