When communities talk, prevention is possible
The Winona County Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) is hosting a free National Prescription (Rx) Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, April 28, 2018. This drive-through event will be held in the Walgreens parking lot, 750 Mankato Avenue, Winona, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
National Rx Drug Take-Back Day is your opportunity to safely dispose of the extra prescription drugs you have at home. Please bring your expired or unused prescription medications to the event. Bring items in their original containers and blacken or scratch out personal information on the containers. Please take needles and over-the-counter medications to the Hazardous Waste Center (225 West Second Street, Winona).
Winona County ASAP has collected a total of 645 pounds of prescription drugs from the last four National Prescription (Rx) Drug Take-Back Day events. If not disposed of properly, these substances can harm the environment if flushed or become misused by youth to sell, get high, or self-medicate. Two-thirds of teens that misused pain relievers say they got them from family and friends, including the medicine cabinet (Partnership for Drug-Free Kids, 2016).
Winona County ASAP is a coalition of community members devoted to cultivating a drug-free culture for children and teens in the Winona area. You can learn more by visiting www.winonacountyasap.org or calling 507-474-2727.
