A Matter of Faith: Fighting the battle

Yes, we will be fighting Satan all throughout our lives, but don’t let that stop you. Satan is no match for God. If you have God on your side you will be battle-ready. The sacrament of baptism is the first step in the right direction. Help your children to be battle-ready as well; there are numerous ways to prepare. I read that the name of St. Joseph makes all of Hell tremble and disperses the demons, as Jesus revealed to Edson Glauber during an apparition in Brazil.

I want to do my part as well. Recently, I heard about a mother who prayed the rosary everyday for each of her children — God put it on my heart to pray a Chaplet of Divine Mercy everyday for each of my own six children and their families. I also do one for Duane (deceased). I thought, yes Lord, I can do that, even if I have to skip my Judge Judy! Lord I will do that. Lord, help me to do that.

“The souls who say this chaplet will be embraced by my mercy during their lifetime and especially at the hour of their death,” (Diary, 754) — a message from Jesus.

If we can resist the temptation of sin, then God wins; if not, Satan wins. Do we have any control over the situation? Yes! If we are striving to put God first, then we are given the power (grace) to at least avoid the big sins. Smaller sins such as human frailty, inherited from the fall of our first parents, Adam and Eve, puts us in a situation to humbly pray. God, have mercy on me, a poor sinner.

The use of holy water has great powers over Satan, and shouldn’t be over-looked. It is a great comfort when sprinkled for the poor souls in Purgatory, and to sprinkle it for our children as well. I do both, always with the grace of God.

God gives us special graces when we receive the sacrament of confession, and of course the Mass and Eucharist. We should try our best to be attentive at Holy Mass, for we know Satan tries to take our minds on a wild goose chase. The Eucharist should not be taken lightly. Prepare your heart ahead of time that Jesus is coming (make an act of contrition) into your soul, and don’t forget to thank Him for this great gift. For a while God has helped you to win your battle with Satan. Every day try to increase your friendship with God in whatever manner you can; put prayer high on the list.

So again, we need to ask ourselves if we’re winning the battle, the game of life. (That’s the name of one of my books.) As we wrestle daily with Satan, all of the above will be a great help in diminishing the power of Satan, and in winning this battle, the game of life.
