The Winhawk boys tennis team is holding steady with 3-2 wins for their season in spite of a 5-2 loss to Albert Lea last Tuesday, April 24. Winona singles players, freshman Anthony Appicelli and senior Koltan Benrud, won their matches, although Benrud’s 6-1 and 6-2 were more conclusive than the younger Appicelli’s 10-9 round. In doubles play, Winona’s team of juniors Adrien Brietzke and Max Hetzel took their matches, but Albert Lea took the day.
The Winhawks have won three meets this season, shutting down Mankato East, Red Wing, and Faribault, but there is still tennis to play. The Winona boys varsity team will meet Rochester Century on Tuesday night.
