Soft breezes and clouds greeted the fest crew on Saturday, June 9. The work crew arrived to help the vendors with their tents, until a shower stopped the work. After a wait of about 40 minutes the weather improved, and preparation activity continued for the third annual rhubarb fest. With the weather starting to cooperate it was a fairly successful event.
In the tasting contest there were nine contestants. Popular vote determines the winners. First place was awarded to Lori Senn with her mother-in-law’s recipe for rhubarb bars. Ruth Schaffner was given second with a rhubarb brownie. Third place was awarded to Judith Ganger and her rhubarb jam. Winners received a gift card to World Cup Coffee. Each contestant received an embroidered towel from Total Towels by Judy Boehm.
The largest leaf contest was won by Rusty Auseth. Second place was awarded to Randy Boehm. Each received a gift card to World Cup Coffee.
The dunk tank was a popular event. The men who braved the activity were judge elect Tom Clark, St. John’s Church Pastor Greg Ferris and former mayor Kevin Hutter. Zoe LaDuke and Casidi Schieffer did a fantastic job with the obstacle course. There were 13 children and a few adults who entered the fun.
The volleyball tournament was canceled due to the weather.
The committee appreciates all those who donated money, attended the event, and volunteered to help. They have already started to make plans for 2019.
