Winona teen killed in Houston County crash

A Winona Senior High School (WSHS) student was killed in a one-vehicle crash on Friday evening near Houston.

Sixteen-year-old Sophia Allena Moe of Winona was killed after the vehicle she was in left the road at around 6 p.m. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the vehicle, a 2005 Buick LeSabre, was traveling northbound on Highway 76 when the driver lost control on a turn. The vehicle left the roadway near Scenic View Drive in Houston Township.

The driver and a passenger, both 16-year-old girls, were transported to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse after the crash. Their names and injuries were not available. Moe was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

According to the report, alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash. 

 

Moe, an honor student and clarinet player, was about to enter her junior year at WSHS.
