Winona Area Public Schools (WAPS) is pleased to announce Dr. Maurella Cunningham as its new director of learning and teaching.
Dr. Cunningham earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science from Carleton College and a Master of Education in secondary education from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Cunningham returned to the University of Minnesota to obtain her doctorate in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in culture and teaching. In addition to teaching world languages and social studies at the secondary level for over 10 years, Dr. Cunningham’s recent experience includes serving as a professor of educational studies programs at public and private colleges and universities in Minnesota and teaching in a Minnesota correctional facility.
Dr. Cunningham stated, “I am enthusiastic about taking an active role in promoting and supporting a district and community-wide culture that values and recognizes the importance of student learning and teaching excellence.” After spending her summers growing up in Winona, Dr. Cunningham is happy to be back.
