Xcel Energy made the decision to eliminate lights, banners and flags on its poles. This has affected all communities that it serves. The city crew and others have stepped up to create a holiday feeling by placing three trees throughout the city. These trees were donated by the Wes and Karen Domine family. Wreaths that were on the poles are now displayed at the future site of the new fire department building.
Inquiring minds want to know more about the lighting contest: The contest is sponsored by a private group; there is no entry fee. If there are lights at your house, you are automatically entered. The reason for being anonymous is so there is independent judging. This is the second year of the contest. So far, there has been much interest in the event, which was created to build the holiday spirit.
Judging will be done the week of December 17-25.
