On this hike participants will travel through time to learn about the amazing geologic processes that formed the beautiful Whitewater River Valley. Find out how oceans, glaciers and raging rivers have shaped this landscape.

Snakes of the Blufflands

Saturday, June 1, 10-11 a.m., Whitewater Valley Visitor Center

Sixteen of Minnesota’s 17 kinds of snakes live in the bluff lands. Learn how you can live, work and recreate in the bluff lands and still conserve these awesome creatures. Bring a camera for a picture of your loved one touching a live snake!

Mini Monsters at the Beach

Many small creatures live in Whitewater’s cold-water streams and at the beach. Get wet and wild using nets to search for some of Whitewater’s miniature water monsters! Find out about the interesting critters we share the swimming hole with. How does life in the stream differ from life in the beach pool?

Did you know that Whitewater State Park was once home to German prisoners of war? Come learn about one of the lesser-known parts of Minnesota’s history. What did they do here? Where did they go? What was life like being a prisoner? Did they cause mischief? Come find out!

Frogs & Toads

Saturday, June 1, 8-9 p.m., Whitewater Valley Visitor Center

Throughout the twilight hours of spring and summer, Minnesota’s frogs and toads can be heard calling from the wetlands. But can you identify who is calling by the sounds you hear? Come learn about the frogs of Whitewater State Park and listen to a frog serenade at the visitor center pond.

Intro to Trout Fishing

Sunday, June 2, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., South Picnic area

Equipment will be provided for this outing, but you must bring your own bait; worms often work best. Fishing licenses and trout stamps are not required when fishing during the activity. This program will be offered at Whitewater every Sunday through September 2.
