Matter of Faith: Assurance of faith

From: Philip Sorensen

The Bible defines faith as the assurance of what we hope for and the certainty of the things we cannot see. Without it, we cannot please God (Hebrews 11:1 and 6). Simply, faith is believing what God said He would do. Real Christianity is built on the trustworthiness of God and His Word. It is said that there is nothing sure in life but taxes and death. That’s enough to make a person depressed. But let God be true and everything else a lie, for all of His promises have proven true and He is a refuge to those who trust Him (Psalm 18:30). He has promised to save those who call upon His name (Romans 10:13). Our salvation was bought and paid for by the blood of Christ (Ephesians 1:7) and it is a gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). We don’t deserve it, can’t earn it, but must receive it! It’s all wrapped up in Jesus. “He who has the Son has life. He who does not have the Son of God does not have life (I John 5:11-13).

As believers, we will face uncertainties, troubles, difficulties in one form or another. But we don’t face them alone, for He promised to never leave or forsake us and to be with us to the end (Hebrews 13:5 and Matthew 28:20).

Where is your faith? God is our refuge and strength, and ever present to help us (Psalm 46:1). Trust Him!
