Marion S. Schmoker, age 76, of rural Kellogg, died Friday, December 26, 2003, at Gundersen-Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis. She was born May 14, 1927, in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of Frank and Eleanora (Hoerst) Brandt. Before her marriage, she worked 10 years as an office clerk for the Square D Company. She married Kenneth Schmoker August 23, 1958, in Nazareth Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. She then raised her family before returning to work. In 1974 she began working for the Layton State Bank in Milwaukee as a teller supervisor, working there for 15 years until she retired in 1989. The couple moved to rural Kellogg in 1994.
She was a longtime active member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church and its Women's Missionary Society in Milwaukee. She was currently a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wabasha and its Women's Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Kellogg American Legion Auxiliary and was also active with the Kellogg SEMCAC program. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, the Minnesota Twins and especially her grandson, Jacob.
Marion is survived by her husband, Ken Schmoker, Kellogg, Minn.; daughters and son-in-law, Cheri and Ron Walker, LaCrosse, Wis., Debbie Schmoker, Milwaukee, Wis.; son, Bill Schmoker, Milwaukee, Wis.; one grandson, Jacob Walker, LaCrosse, Wis.; brother-in-law, Jim Sweigart, Fox Lake, Wis., and one nephew, Robert Sweigart, Germantown, Wis. Her parents and one sister, Shirley Sweigart, preceded her in death.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 30, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Jamie Brei officiating. Interment was in Greenfield Cemetery in Kellogg. Casket bearers were: John, Travis and Bruce Danckwart, Bill Murphy, Steve Rust and Steve Schaefer. The family prefers memorials to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund or to the American Diabetes Association. The Abbott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
