Carol Meyer is a talented painter and enthusiastic Community Education Adult Enrichment instructor.

"I am currently having fun teaching Watercolor classes," shares Carol. "I like meeting people that are interested in art. The staff make it easy to create a teaching schedule that works for the community needs as well as my own."

Winona Area Public Schools views education as a lifelong endeavor and is thrilled to have Community Education here to provide learning opportunities for Winona citizens of all ages.

"Sharing your interests and gifts with the community is a good way to have fun and know your community better," adds Carol.

MCA Testing. All 7th grade students in the state of Minnesota will be taking MCA tests (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments) in reading and math.

This year the tests have been scheduled for January 13th (reading) and January 14th (math). Attendance is extremely important, so please try not to schedule appointments for your child on these days.

The High School Career Center is available to all high school students. Students may make an appointment or stop in the office between classes for help with career decision-making, job shadowing experience, resume writing, or college searches. Please encourage your child to take advantage of this great resource!

Health Services Reminder

Certainly you have heard or read about concerns regarding the influenza season this year. Influenza with respiratory symptoms is a yearly occurrence. Due to the early onset in some areas this year, a vaccine shortage, and very intense media coverage, parent concern is elevated in Winona. Last week and already this morning Health Services has received numerous calls from parents concerned about the possibility of their child being exposed to the influenza at school.

Serious respiratory illnesses like influenza are spread by coughing or sneezing and unclean hands. They are spread easily in places where people are in close contact. Please take a moment to talk to your students and stress the preventive measures that everyone can take to help avoid illness by stopping the spread of germs that cause disease.

STAYING HEALTHY AND STOPPING THE SPREAD OF INFLUENZA

1. Wash your hands often.

2. Keep your hands away from your eyes, nose, & mouth.

3. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue every time you cough or sneeze.

4. If you don't have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve.

5. After coughing or sneezing, always wash your hands with soap and water.

6. Do not share eating utensils, glasses, towels, or other personal items.

7. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

8. Stay home when you are sick.
