Gary C. Baab, 62, of Rollingstone, Minn., died Wednesday, December 23, 2004, at Community Memorial Hospital, after a short battle with cancer.

Gary was born in Wabasha, Minn., on November 18, 1942, the son of Harris and Marguerite (Hartman) Baab.

He is a 1961 graduate of Winona Senior High School. Gary owned and operated the family car wash, "Fountain Car Wash" on Gilmore Avenue until 1978. He then was a pressman for the Winona Daily News until retiring on April 1, 1998, due to disability.

On October 10, 1964, he married Donna Harders. They were later divorced. He then married Patricia K. Obitz on June 4, 1993, in Winona.

Gary was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Winona Sportsman Club, North American Hunting Club, Ducks Unlimited and the North American Fisherman's Club. Gary was also an avid bowler.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his mother, Marguerite Baab, of Rollingstone; children, Rebecca (John) Kouba of Winona and Todd (Susie) Baab, of Wabasha; a stepdaughter, Michelle Obitz and friend Matthew Frisch, Minnesota City; grandchildren, Hunter, Austin and Adrianna Baab; and step-grandson, Brock Frisch.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harris Baab.

Funeral services for Gary were Monday, December 27, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, with the Reverend Wade E. Davick officiating. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Minneiska, Minn.

Casketbearers were Matthew Frisch, Tim Scharmer, Kent Russell, Robert Muras, James Bethka and Tim Brown.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.
