Irene Genevieve Bellman, 75, formerly of Goodview, Minn., died Thursday, December 30, 2004, at Sauer Memorial Home.
She was born January 5, 1929, the daughter of Donald and Margaret (Palubicki) Bellman, in Winona.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Neville-Lien Post #1287.
She attended Butler University in Indiana, earning her BA degree and received her Masters Degree from Winona State University. She taught in various school systems throughout the U.S. and finished her teaching career in Dade County, Fla. Irene was proud to have had her picture taken with her favorite Hollywood actor, James Stewart.
She served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1953, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where she was a parachute rigger, obtaining the rank of SSGT, retiring after ten years of combined service.
She is survived by a half-brother, Roger (Sandy) Bellman, of Fremont, Calif.; an aunt, Leona Brown, of Winona; and special friends, Shirley Brown, Esther Styba and Mary Strelow, all of Winona; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother.
A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, January 2, at 1 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Full military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars following the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The Reverend Thomas J. Hargesheimer will officiate.
