“Shipwrecked: An Entertainment,” a family-friendly production, opened on Friday, June 30, at 7:30 p.m. as a part of GRSF’s 14th season. “Shipwrecked” tells the tale of Louis de Rougemont, an adventurous soul who invites you to hear his amazing story of bravery, survival, and celebrity that springs to life like a theatrical pop-up book. Children and adults alike will be blown away by this fantastical true story based on an untrue story.
The Great River Shakespeare Festival (GRSF), now in its 14th season, will be producing four professional plays for the first time since its inception. Previously only producing two to three professional productions per year, the addition of a fourth has inspired GRSF to introduce a family-friendly play in the company of its regular Shakespearean collective. “Shipwrecked: An Entertainment” set sail on June 30 at 7:30 p.m. and runs through July 29.
“The Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies scampers to the defense of good old-fashioned yarn spinning with ‘Shipwrecked.’ The breathless story of a Victorian gentleman [and] seafaring wanderer springs to life like a theatrical pop-up book … [in a] kid-friendly comedy. The audience is left to judge whether he is an inspirational figure touched by imaginative genius or a mere con man. We can also consider the possibility that the hero of this true story based on an untrue story is a little of each,” wrote Charles Isherwood of the New York Times.
