Winona Friendship Center members will receive a renewal letter a month before they need to renew their membership. Yearly memberships are $27 for individuals and $37 for a couple (two per household). Interested community members may stop into the center to renew or purchase a membership. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
2017 Active Wellness Center membership
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. WSU exercise science students are available for monitoring and training. The center has older adult friendly exercise equipment, and workout programs designed specifically for each individual. Release forms must be filled out prior to workout on the first day; forms will be faxed to participants’ doctors to avoid charges for an office visit.
Payment is required upon registering. The cost for members is $74 annually.

Minn. Safety Council defensive driving
55+ initial course
This course will be on Monday and Wednesday, August 14 and 16, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. The cost for members is $17 and $26 for non-members.
If you are 55 or older, Minnesota law requires insurance companies to offer you a 10 percent reduction for three years if you complete the National Safety Council’s defensive driving course, taught by professional certified instructors.
This course is two four-hour classroom sessions and no driving or test is required. A certificate will be provided to you for your insurance company after both classes have been completed.
Wisconsin residents must ask their insurance agent if they will cover the 10 percent discount.
Registration ends on July 31.
Blood pressure checks
On July 6 and July 20 from 12-1 p.m. the Friendship Center will offer blood pressure checks free to members.
“Bridge of Spies” PG-13, will be shown on Monday, July 24, from 12:30-3 p.m. It is free for members.
Bingo will be played on July 27 from 1-3:30 p.m. The fee for members is $1 for two cards. Please register before 11 a.m. on the day of the program. All money taken in is paid out in prizes.
Acrylic painting class
Sylvia Tolzin, Backyard Brushes, will lead this class on August 7 from 2-5 p.m. The fee for members is $25.
Have you always wanted to paint but are too afraid to try? No experience is necessary for this class. In this session all artists will follow and paint the same picture as the instructor. Stop into the center to view the art piece. Instructions and supplies are provided. Make your own masterpiece to take home for yourself or to give as a gift.
Boogie Bananza Extravaganza Friendship Day
Boogie Bananza Extravaganza Friendship Day is August 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost for members is $6.
National Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in August. This day is dedicated to friends and friendships. Join in for this celebration with an indoor hamburger picnic lunch along with Malia’s famous 30-foot banana split!
Jewelry class — Earrings
Barbara Saykally will lead this class on Thursday, August 17, from 1-4 p.m. The cost for members is $18.
This class will provide an opportunity to create your own earrings. Learn the basics of making earrings. Choose from gemstones, crystals or pearls for your own style. All levels of experience are invited and all materials are provided. Registration ends on July 19.
