Taste wine while you enjoy featured musical artists in Galesville at Old Main’s 2017 main event on Saturday, September 16, from 1-6 p.m. Local wineries Elmaro of Trempealeau, Riverview of La Crescent, Seven Hawks of Fountain City and Tenba Ridge of Blair will delight attendees with a wonderful selection of their fine vintage. Pearl St. Brewery of La Crosse will serve several local beers. All these and an elegant variety of taste paired cheeses and other yummy treats will be on the beautiful lawn in front of the historic stone edifice known as Old Main. The annual event is a major fundraiser for Galesville University’s revival as a regional cultural and arts venue.
Live music will include the very popular Under Paris Skies from 1-3 p.m. and Too Darn Hot Jazz Band from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Under Paris Skies was again voted the Best of La Crosse County in 2017.
Specialty cheeses, meats and crackers will be paired with the wines; non-alcoholic beverages will also be available. Pulled pork sandwiches will be served as well as homemade pie and coffee.
Tickets are priced at $20 for eight samples of wine or beer. This price includes snacks and an engraved wine glass or stein to take home. The sandwiches, pie and coffee are separately priced.
The big raffle includes two pairs of tickets for the Wisconsin Badgers versus Purdue football game in Madison on October 14. Entertainment tickets in the raffle include the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, as well as the Peninsula Players in Door County, La Crosse Community Theater, UWL theater and more. A silent auction will feature a wide variety of prizes and coupons donated by area businesses and individuals.
All proceeds from the main event will be used to help meet the operational costs of Old Main and to continue upgrading the 155-year-old building. Old Main was the original building for the Galesville University. Built in 1862, this charming stone structure has been restored by the efforts of countless volunteers and donors, and is becoming known for its ongoing Gale Star, Performing Arts series.
There will also be a variety of local artists displaying their jewelry, pottery, and more. The art gallery will feature a display of fiber arts including Darlene Walls, crocheting; Laurie Hovell, knitting; and John Richason, weaving. The Old Main History and Genealogy Center will set up historical displays.
Old Main is located at the south end of 12th Street on Galesville’s west end. Signs will guide you to the site. Check out www.oldmain.org for more information.
