Sophomore Jackson Nibbelink scores against Owatonna in the first period.
The Winona Winhawk boys basketball team had an intense knucklebiter on Friday night, keeping the score tight until the final minutes when the Owatonna Huskies pulled ahead and won 68-58. The Huskies played a flashy, physical game against the ‘Hawks, but Winona kept pace, battling to keep the lead within reach. Junior Jake Reeck put away five of 14 attempted field goals, with Ethan Prodzinski jamming in three of six, but not without some friction in the paint. Junior Matt Rinehart nailed five of eight free throws, and Reeck’s sterling seven of seven FT record for the evening kept the Winhawks in it until the end, but the Huskies pulled away, wrapping up the game for Owatonna. The Winhawks play Kasson-Mantorville at home December 19.
