Winona Friendship Center activities


Winona Friendship Center members will receive a renewal letter a month before they need to renew their membership. Yearly memberships are $29 for individuals and $39 for a couple (two per household). Interested community members may stop into the center to renew or purchase a membership. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

2018 Active Wellness Center membership
Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. WSU exercise science students are available for monitoring and training. The center has older adult friendly exercise equipment, and workout programs designed specifically for each individual. Release forms must be filled out prior to workout on the first day; forms will be faxed to participants’ doctors to avoid charges for an office visit.

Payment is required upon registering. The cost for members is $76 annually.

Hand massages
Gloria Siewert with “Caring Hands” will facilitate hand massages on Tuesday, February 20, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The cost for members is $3.50

Hand massages improve circulation, relieve tension in tendons and increase flexibility.

Essential Oils And A Restful Night’s Sleep
Alicianne Fritz will instruct this essential oils session on Tuesday, February 20, from 1-3 p.m. The cost for members is $5.50.

‘Gen Silent’
Alesha Schandelmeier of The Center 7 Rivers LGBTQ Connection will host this free for members session on Wednesday, February 21, from 1-3 p.m.

“Gen Silent” is the critically acclaimed documentary that asks six LGBTQ older adults if they will hide their friends, spouses and their entire lives to survive the care system. LGBTQ older adults who fought the first battles for equality now face so much fear of discrimination, bullying and abuse that many are hiding their lives to survive. Thousands of early deaths can be attributed to isolation and the fear of asking for help. A discussion led by Schandelmeier will take place after the film.

Jewelry Class – Necklace
Barbara Saykally will lead this class on Thursday, February 22, from 1-4 p.m. The cost for members is $22.

Make a necklace using laser-etched dagger beads make from Czech glass. These delicate beads will be a rich blue opal color. All beads will be 2mm and larger, no seed beads. All materials are provided. The registration deadline is February 1.

Monthly Movie
Stop by the center to read about each featured film. The next film is on Monday, February 26, from 1-3:45 p.m. This is free for members. Donations for refreshments are greatly appreciated.

Try out snowshoeing with instruction from Park and Recreation staff on Tuesday, February 27, from 1-3 p.m. The cost for members is $2. This is for those interested in trying out snowshoeing and for those who already enjoy the hobby. This event is for beginners and experienced folks. Enjoy a warm fire and hot chocolate at Lake Lodge. No Lake Lodge membership is required.

Singles 8 Ball Pool Tournament
Tim Galewski will facilitate this tournament on Wednesday, February 28, at 9 a.m. The cost for members is $1.75

All levels of players are welcome. The tournament is double elimination – best two out of three games.

Barb Burchill and Dan McCammon will lead a free session on Volksmarch on Monday, March 5, from 1-2 p.m.

A Volksmarch is a 6.2 (3.1) mile walk – not a race or competition or pledge-for-a-cause, but just a walk.

Twice a year there’s a Volksmarch to the top of the Crazy Horse monument in the Black Hills. Learn about Volksmarches as well as the history surrounding the monument and Crazy Horse himself, through memories, pictures and more.

Minn. Safety Council Defensive Driving --- 4 Hour Refresher Course
Monday, March 19 from 6:00-10:00 p.m. Members: $17. Non-Members: $26.

This is the four-hour refresher class for those who have already taken the initial eight-hour class, with a 10-percent discount on insurance. There is no driving and no test. You will receive a certificate of completion to provide to your insurance company for the 10-percent discount on your insurance. Wisconsin residents must ask their insurance agent if they will cover the 10-percent discount.

Pre-registration and payment is required. Registration ends on March 5. The class will be held on Monday, March 19, from 6-10 p.m. The cost for members is $17; for non-members the cost is $26.
