Winona U10 girls youth hockey team competed in the District 9 End Year Tournament on March 3-4 in St. Peter, Minn. The U10 team, with an overall District 9 season record of 13-3-3, placed third in a 4-2 victory over Owatonna on Sunday. The team has had a very successful season, and with a 17-skater roster, the youth girls hockey program is flourishing. Despite the folding of the girls high school hockey program for the ‘17-18 school year, the youth feeder program remains stronger than ever. According to the Winona Area Youth Hockey Association, the U12 girls team has a 13-skater roster and the mite and learn to skate program has a total of 29 girls, for an entire youth program serving 59 female hockey players. The association intends to skate a U15 girls team next season to continue to build on the success of the U12 and U10 teams.
