To celebrate Syttende Mai, Pamela Preston Kelly, pianist, will join Christina Adamoli and Irene Kelly, sopranos, to perform works by Edvard Grieg, Christian Sinding, and Agathe Backer-Grøndahl at Old Main in Galesville on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at 3 p.m.
Pam Kelly is a piano instructor in La Crosse, Wis., and a pianist for the La Crosse Symphony. Christina Adamoli is an active musician in the Twin Cities, with interests ranging from bluegrass to opera theater. She completed her master’s studies in vocal performance at the University of Minnesota. Adamoli has studied German lieder and Scandinavian art song extensively and is currently preparing a project on the life and works of the female Norwegian composer, Agathe Backer-Grøndahl.
Irene Kelly recently completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota. Kelly has recently returned to the La Crosse area, where she works as a voice and violin teacher at the Onalaska Music Academy, and performs with the UW-L Chamber Choir, and the La Crosse Chamber Chorale.
The program will include tunes sung by the Norwegian Folk Singers of Blair. A festive reception of Norwegian treats and beautiful art displays will follow the program in the second floor gallery. Lois Hoff and Edith Kling are bringing their Rosemaling pieces, Martha Riley will share her Hardanger embroidery work, and Dorothy Dale has some other lovely Norwegian items to round out the show.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for college students; people in high school and younger are free.
The performance will celebrate the Norwegian heritage of Old Main from 1901 to 1938 when the campus was known as Gale College. This classical and folk performance will be a tribute to Norwegian American contributions to the cultural development of our region. Everyone is welcome.
To find Old Main turn south from Ridge Avenue at 12th Street, then right on College Avenue. The stone building is lighted; signs will be posted.
