On Thursday, September 27, Washington-Kosciusko (W-K) Elementary hallways filled with laughter and excitement as families attended the first family engagement night of the school year. W-K Elementary School Improvement Team set up six family interactive activities that included gaga ball, cup stacking, timed paper towers, reading, and art. Cari Rustad, gifted and talented teacher and member of W-K Elementary School Improvement Team, said, “It was exciting to see our students strategize with their families on each activity. The building was filled with laughter and families had the opportunity to build relationships with other families, students and W-K Elementary staff.”
Principal Dawn Waller-Lueck said that one of the School Improvement Team’s goals this year was to increase family engagement. With school consolidations, W-K Elementary has new families and the team wanted to make sure they provided an opportunity for them to meet other families and become acquainted with the W-K Elementary staff. “This was one of our top attended events and I could not be more proud as I watched our students and their families engage. Students were excited to share their school and knowledge with their family,” said Waller-Lueck. The W-K Elementary School Improvement Team is in the process of organizing more family engagement opportunities. Events will be communicated with parents through newsletters and the W-K Elementary website www.WinonaSchools.org/wk.
