Parker Hawkinson was recognized as the Kiwanis Sunrisers of Winona 4-H Youth Representative for the month of November. He is the son of Matt and Lisa Hawkinson and a senior at Winona Senior High School. Hawkinson is a member of the Winona River City 4-H Club and has served as the president, vice president and treasurer and is currently serving as the youth treasurer of the Winona County 4-H Federation.
During his time in 4-H, Hawkinson has taken part in the Winona County Fair and Minnesota State Fair, participating in a variety of categories including rabbit, health, photography, video, wildlife biology, and more! Hawkinson was also one of the Minnesota delegates for the Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF) trip to Washington, D.C., in 2017. Hawkinson said his experience at CWF “taught me what it means to be a citizen, how to write/pass a bill and how strong of ideas youth can create when working together.” When asked what 4-H has to offer he commented, “It is a fun program that offers leadership opportunities and great service projects.” Hawkinson said some of the advantages and opportunities 4-H has given him include, “speaking in front of large groups, working with other youth and adults, coordinating events and personal responsibility.”
Winona Sunrisers Kiwanis Club honors one outstanding Winona County 4-H member during its breakfast meeting on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The club meets every Wednesday at 7 a.m. at the Winona Family Restaurant in Winona.
