At Old Main on Saturday, December 8, at 6:30 p.m., all are in for a fun night filled with Christmas cheer sure to make spirits bright. Upon entering the front doors of Old Main, attendees will be greeted by festive decorations. Wina Mortenson will emcee the program, a delightful mix of singing, playing, and storytelling. Performers include Aimee Siegler, vocals and guitar; the barbershop quartet 2 Young 2 Gray, with members Christian Sveen, Bjorn Mortenson, Wina Mortenson, and Ron Reimer; and the Tri-State Accordion Club, who will lead the audience in a sing along! Young pianist Elsie Marley will play a piece from her recital; G-E-T middle school musicians, Natalie Olsen on flute and Jazmyn Roensch on tenor sax, will play a duet; Mortenson will read a special story; Carter Bennett, of Vocal Point, will run straight over to Old Main from the Trempealeau Holiday Standstill Parade to sing; and Mary Graziano will greet the audience as you climb the stairs to the third floor, as well as send you off into the night, with holiday favorites played on the piano. The program is followed by a cookie reception — all baking done by G-E-T High School culinary arts students. Treats and surprises are also a part of Christmas at Old Main, including a visit from Mr. Claus! The concert takes place in the third floor auditorium. The reception will be in the multi-purpose room on the second floor, where drawings and paintings will be on display by Trempealeau artist Dianne Van Eijl.
People are discovering Old Main to be a venue that features some of the finest talent in the Coulee region in a setting that is acoustically live and which invites a warm relationship with the audience and entertainers. “Christmas at Old Main” has always been about sharing a joyful experience. “It’s such a great feeling to laugh and sing together, and enjoy the talents of our friends and neighbors,” added Mortenson, who will be the emcee for the seventh time.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed to Sunday, December 9, at 3 p.m. Check the Old Main Facebook page or oldmain.org after 4 p.m. on December 8 to be sure of the final decision. Admission is $10 for adults, and $5 for college students. Performances are free to people in high school and younger.
