1 arrested after graffiti on 12 houses

A dozen Winona homeowners woke up to unwanted artwork on Sunday, as a vandal spent the morning tagging homes on the east side of town.

At 12:50 a.m. a Winona man living on the 850 block of East Mark Street reported seeing a person spray painting his neighbor’s garage.
Cleveland Allen Brown, 22, of Winona, was later taken into custody after police said he matched the description given by the witness.

According to the report, Brown was carrying a backpack which contained something that “sounded like aerosol cans” and green paint on his hands, but he reportedly told police he had no knowledge of the graffiti. Brown was arrested on an unrelated warrant and, in a subsequent search, was found to be in possession of two cans of spray paint matching the green and pink colors used in the tagging on the homes.
Additional charges are pending damage estimates from the 12 residences.
