The Winona/Cotter boys and girls Nordic ski teams recently qualified for the MSHL state meet by earning runner-up positions at the 1A section meet held at Hyland Park in Bloomington, Minn. The Winona boys finished behind Prior Lake, holding off third-place Eagan. The Winona girls qualified for state for the second year in a row, finishing behind section champion Eastview, a reversal of last year’s section position.
The boy skiers included Mitchel Ploetz (sixth), Ryan Meyer (eighth), Carter Briggs (12th), Kole Koehler (18th), Owen Ping (20th), Preston Halleck (22nd), and Rory Briggs (29th). The girls were led by Anni Skillicorn, who won the section race for the second year in a row.
Lauren Ping (fifth), Morgan Arnold (20th), Marissa Lindaman (22nd), Jill Serleth (30th), Emily Johnson (33rd), and Lauren Whyte (35th) will also represent Winona/Cotter at state for head coach Jacob Teicherow.
The MSHL state meet will will be held in Biwabik, Minn., on Thursday, February 14.
