One person was found dead in a Winona house fire early on Monday morning, according to the Winona Fire Department.
At 3:51 a.m. firefighters received a report of a house fire on the 100 block of East Sanborn Street. The first fire engine reportedly arrived at 3:55 a.m. and flames were visible from the side of the home.
The fire reportedly took around 40 minutes to be extinguished, after which firefighters performed a primary and secondary search of the house. One individual was found dead at the scene and, according to the Winona Fire Department, the fatality was “deemed suspicious.”
The person’s name and age have not yet been released, and the cause of death is unknown.
The Winona Police Department, Minnesota State Fire Marshal and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension have opened an investigation into the blaze and, at press time, were at the scene of the incident.
