Three railcars derailed near Franklin Street in Winona just after midnight last night, according to Canadian Pacific Railway (CP). The railcars were hopper cars carrying grain and derailed during rail yard operations, CP officials reported. There were no injuries. CP staff said the exact cause of the accident is under investigation.
Some of the cars were off the tracks and leaning to one side, and there appeared to be damage to some of the rail yard storage tracks where the derailment occurred. The main running line was not affected.
CP crews were operating heavy equipment this morning at rail yard next to Franklin Street, apparently trying to right the tipped over cars.
