Explore gardens inside and out at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) on Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., as part of MMAM’s Second Saturdays. June’s event offers $1 admission (MMAM members are free every day), guided tours, art-making activities, live music in the galleries, everyone’s favorite search-and-find game Bingo Overboard!, and many garden-inspired experiences.
Activities for June’s Second Saturday: Gardens include a 30-minute highlights tour which offers a brief introduction to the museum’s collections, and a “Looking at Landscapes” tour with Curator of Education Heather Casper, where you will discover how the French Impressionists and the Hudson River School artists saw and painted landscapes differently. There will also be a special walking tour of MMAM’s American prairie style gardens. Every Second Saturday incorporates art-making activities connected to the month’s theme. This month you can create origami flowers and miniature garden decor to add to your favorite potted plant, terrarium, or garden spot. Local artist Julie Johnston will demonstrate how to create beautiful floral arrangements inspired by artworks in the museum. For more information and for a detailed schedule of events, please visit mmam.org/SecondSaturdays.
Second Saturdays is an arts access program with the goal of reducing intimidation and increasing comfortable access to the fine arts for everyone. MMAM developed Second Saturdays to change, expand, and enrich the way the museum connects with the Winona community. MMAM is pleased to offer free rides to and from the museum with the Winona Transit Service Dial-a-Ride. Please call 507-454-6666 to schedule your ride.
Second Saturdays are made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
This highly competitive arts access grant encourages arts organizations across the state to invest in programming that creates long-term engagement between arts organizations and their communities.
Second Saturdays is also made possible by our generous sponsor WNB Financial, media sponsor The Water Main, Minnesota Public Radio, and Bingo Overboard! sponsor Doug Troke, Farmers Insurance.
Founded in 2006, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum is a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts organization with the mission to engage visitors in meaningful visual arts experiences through education and exhibitions that explore the ongoing and historic human relationship with water.
