Winona Health moving day sparks fond memories

I just read the article about the day the new hospital opened on Mankato Avenue on August 11, 1962, and have a good memory to share about that day.

I was a student nurse that very year and my classmates and I were assigned to accompany the patients to the new hospital. There were two or three patients who were in traction in bed and loaded on a semi truck to be transferred. The student nurses, two or three of us, were on each side holding everything in place while the move was made. It was quite a scary and exciting trip. Most of us at 18 years old had an unforgettable life experience. I’ve included a picture of the class; if anyone wants a reunion, contact me: Mary Jo Neumann, S3023 Park Street, Fountain City, Wis., 54629 (507-429-3834).
