Geocache: Join the treasure hunt!

Recently, members of Winona Chapter AP Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) gathered at Lake Lodge to learn how to geocache. Cindy Sample, a longtime geocacher, taught the members how to geocache. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure-hunting game where participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates using a cellphone app and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. There are 407 in the Winona area.

Chapter members learned how to use the app, hunted, and discovered three geocaches — STAR Gazing, ELF home and Educate Women — all placed in honor of P.E.O. around East Lake Winona. Each cache represents the educational scholarships, grants, and loans available through P.E.O. After the hunt for geocaches, the P.E.O.s headed to Island City Brewery to celebrate finding the geocaches.

The mission of P.E.O. is the educational advancement of girls and women through support and financial assistance. To learn more about the loans, scholarships, and grants available for girls and women, please go to the P.E.O. International web site, peointernational.org.
