October 24

The Minnesota City Community Readers will meet on Thursday, October 24, at 6:30 p.m. at city hall, 149 Mill Street in Minnesota City. The book being discussed is “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown. All readers are invited whether or not you have actually read the book. Copies of “Watership Down” by Richard Adams will be handed out and that book will be discussed at the November 21 meeting.

The Winona Area Retired Educators’ Association (WAREA) will hold its next meeting at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 28, at Perkins in Winona. The guest speaker is Mary Jo Geroge, AARP associate state director for advocacy, who will speak about medication pricing and elder abuse laws that were passed. Newly elected president Lyle Laturno will conduct the meeting and cordially invites all retired educators to network with membership while enjoying a delicious breakfast. Cathedral’s Young at Heart will meet on November 7 starting with 12:10 mass followed by a lunch of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, carrots, cranberry sauces, roll, and pumpkin pie. The Historic Church Foundation of Minnesota City (formerly known as the First Baptist Church Ladies Aid) will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, at the home of Sarah Denzer in Winona.

A trauma survivors support group
will meet at 10 a.m. on the third Saturday of every month to discuss how to move forward and grow out of post-traumatic stress. This group will use trauma-informed techniques to help individuals in their recovery. Due to the nature topics, anyone under 18 should bring a caregiver with them to the group. Meet at the old Bridal Boutique building at 1052 West Broadway. Trauma survivors support group is part of Client Centered Counseling Services, a new nonprofit corporation in Winona.

Meetings are 75-minutes long, and attendees are requested to pay a $20 fee — or whatever you can afford.

Parents Assisting Parents (PAP)
meets on every Friday at 11 a.m. to discuss situations in which “the system” (the school district, the county, etc.) failed their families, and is not currently working for them. Parents who have found avenues for relief in their struggles assist others in the group looking for answers. is for parents of children who struggle with chemical addiction. Here you can find encouragement, strength and hope through a Christ-centered fellowship.
