Eagle Bluff offers camp for youngsters

Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center in Lanesboro has a large array of outdoor programming opportunities for a wide range of age groups. Previously its offerings did not include some of the youngest outdoor adventurers  – until now.

Starting in June, Eagle Bluff will offer half-day summer camps for children aged three to five years old. The camps will focus on exploring the various outdoor areas at Eagle Bluff’s campus. This will include spending time looking for bugs in the prairie and river, amphibians in the pond, and fungus in the woods. Campers will also have a chance to meet some of Eagle Bluff’s captive wildlife up close and personal. Camp will take place outside the majority of the time, so campers should expect to have fun while getting wet and dirty. One adult is also welcome to attend per camper.

“We are thrilled to be offering outdoor-focused summer camps for preschool-age children,” Eagle Bluff Education Director Colleen Foehrenbacher said. “Connecting with nature at an early age can have a profound effect on attitudes towards the environment later in life. Our goal with these camps is to excite wonder for the natural world in the youngest among us, while providing a fun, positive outdoor experience.”

Parents interested in learning more about these new preschool camp opportunities at Eagle Bluff should visit eaglebluffmn.org/camps/preschool or call 507-467-2437. Camps will run from June 15-19 and August 3-7 from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration is $20 per day and campers may register by the day or for multiple days, with a 10-percent discount for those who register for the whole week.

Located in the scenic bluff country of Southeast Minnesota, Eagle Bluff is a nonprofit, year-round residential environmental learning center providing education programs and outdoor adventures to more than 16,000 children and adults each year. Through transformative hands-on experiences, it aims to increase environmental awareness and appreciation for the natural world, and empower people to care for the earth and each other.
