On February 24, Nancy Brown, the executive director of the Winona Community Foundation (WCF), gave members of the Learning Club a very interesting description of all that the WCF does. She explained that it is a tax-exempt public charity that enables people to establish charitable funds. It is overseen by a volunteer board of leading citizens and run by professionals with expertise in knowing the community’s needs. The WCF goes beyond simply making grants that advance charitable activities. It also identifies current and emerging issues, stimulates resources to address those needs, and thereby helps the region prepare for the future.
