Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Alma is having its first annual Sidewalk Insanity event on Saturday, September 8. The event is sponsored by the Alma Area Chamber of Commerce and promises to be an exciting day featuring plenty of sidewalk sales, good food, and fun times.
The first shops will start opening at 10 a.m. and there will be sidewalk sales going on up and down Main Street. Even though this is the first year for the event, there will be nearly two dozen businesses involved and many will be offering special sales and giveaways.
Participating shops include The Burlington Quilt Shop, the Weaving Studio, Gypsy Wagon, Art & Soul, Mississippi Pearl, Alma Leather, bluebird, Wings Over Alma, Water Lily Gifts, Alma Blooms, Alma General Store, 3G Gallery, Etta’s Place Consignments, Spasha Salon, Trax Liquor, Stump Town Gallery, Touched by Grace, The Shanty, and the Junk Market/Siam Traditions.
In keeping with the theme of the event, a number of shop keepers will be wearing their most outlandish outfits. Expect to see plenty of unusual costumes and at least one “cat lady.” There will even be an award handed out for the craziest-dressed shop keeper!
In addition to the shopping, there will also be wandering musicians performing along Main Street, a fortune teller at the bluebird, and a sidewalk chalk art contest at the Blue Door Inn. Stump Town Gallery will have a bubble gum blowing contest at 1 p.m. and sidewalk chalk for kids to use. There will be a bean bag toss at the 3G Gallery and Castlerock Museum will have a booth there where visitors can try on chainmail and surcoats.
Several restaurants will have specials going on as well and there will be plenty to eat at the Alma Hotel, Pier 4, the Red Ram Saloon, and Bill’s Talk of the Town, along with tasty treats at the Alma Bakery and ice cream at Fire & Ice.
The event runs until 5 p.m. Check out the chamber’s website at www.almawisconsin.com or the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/AlmaWisconsin for more information.
