The Winona Brass Band continues a long-standing tradition of presenting a concert of music for the season on Sunday, December 14, at 7 p.m. at the St. Cecilia Theatre at Cotter High School.
This annual concert, “Christmas in Brass,” will feature Leroy Anderson’s “Suite of Carols.” American composer Leroy Anderson (1908-1975) held a B.A. and an M.A. from Harvard and became the director of the Harvard Band in 1930. The “Suite of Carols” is one of three Christmas music suites he arranged in 1955 for a holiday season record album. In a record jacket, Richard Ginell wrote that “Anderson wears an entirely straight face and turns out tasteful, soul-satisfying writing for brass that is way above the level of the average Christmas potpourri.”
Director Richard Lindner has served the band since its inception – first as a member of the cornet section and subsequently as its conductor.
The entrance to St. Cecilia Theater is on Seventh Street at Cotter High School. The outdoor steps lead directly to the theater level. There is also a street level entrance for those who might require an elevator or who would prefer to use the indoor steps in the event of wintry weather.
The members of the band welcome you to “Christmas in Brass,” Sunday, December 14, at 7 p.m.
